Your Weekend Guide – Cinco de Mayo 2017

Friday is Cinco de Mayo, but many of you may be unaware of the many “holidays” that are celebrated on May 6th every year. “Free Comic Book Day”, “International No Diet Day”, “Local Quilt Shop Day”, and “National Scrapbooking Day” are just a few of the highlights. Gather up the family this weekend, and enjoy one of the many family-friendly events going on in Midland!

Disney in Concert – Tale as Old as Time (MOSC Pops) [Saturday 7:30pm]

Familiar with a little-known company named Disney? Well, the music of Disney, as performed by the MOSC’s 70+ piece orchestra, accompanied by scenes from the films and professional singers hits the stage of Wagner Noel Saturday night. I have it from good sources that there are only a handful of tickets still available. So act quick before they are all gone or you will be whistling while you work alone at home.

Movies in the Park: Zootopia [Saturday 8:45pm,Odessa]

For those of you with little ones looking for a late night, drive to Odessa’s Sherwood Park where they will be celebrating “Movies in the Park” with Zootopia. Because it is an outdoor screening, the movie doesn’t start until 9pm. There will be food trucks on site and hundreds of families come out to enjoy the weather and the FREE movies. ACM’s Celebration of the Arts [Saturday and Sunday]

Perhaps you are looking for something a little earlier in the day? The Arts Council of Midland will be holding their annual Celebration of the Arts from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sunday. The weekend tribute to the visual and performing arts is designed to benefit the entire community, to increase tourism, and to raise money for the Arts Council. There will be hands-on activities for all ages, demonstrations, displays, and a performance stage.

Alice Cooper Live at the Wagner Noel [Sunday, 8:00pm]

And to round out your weekend, trek back out to the Wagner Noel on Sunday night to listen to the dulcet tones of singer/songwriter Alice Cooper. If you really want to splurge and go for the Front Row Insanity Package, you will get a meet & greet , a photo with Alice, a tour of the stage, and a photo with the FrankenAlice and your head in Alice’s guillotine! Wait, you have to pay to put your head in a guillotine? Anne Boleyn must be shaking her head upon hearing that news. And it will just set you back $785 for that one ticket. For those that just want to experience the concert, tickets are available starting at $58.
